Statistics is a discipline which makes heavy use of Mathematics. The success in statistics requires the development of mathematical ways of thinking and the mastery of mathematical techniques. Those who teach statistics must recognise that we are often likely to be disappointed in our students^ mathematical ability. Care needs to be taken to get the right balance of maths and non maths in any statistics course....
