Abstract:
Environmental statistics is an exciting and rapidly growing area of statistical application. It requires complex new approaches and methods to enable study of areas like: climate change, passive smoking, industrial pollution, forest fires etc. Examples covered in the article include: Metal hyperaccumulator plants which can "eat up" metal contaminants such as zinc, nickel, cadmium and lead; Random or non random sampling in health damaging industrial fibres like asbestos; Ranked set sampling to monitor e-coli pollution levels etc
