As part of a Maths, Stats and OR Network mini-project at the University of Southampton, a statistics e-Learning website on the design and analysis of experiments is under development. The website has a particular focus on the application of the methods in chemistry research, although it is suitable for use in a variety of applied statistics courses. When complete, the website will incorporate formative student assessment and will be suitable for both pedagogy and independent learning. Key to the effective development and evaluation of the module is its adoption into courses. The article goes on to discuss the use of real data and specialist software to bring the learning experience closer to statistics. As part of the Combechem e-Science project, funded by ESPRC, development was initiated on a statistics e-learning website http://www.doe.soton.ac.uk.
