N.B. These Calls for Funding from the Mathematical Sciences HE Curriculum Innovation Fund are now closed. The following details are provided for reference.
First Call for Funding - HE Curriculum Innovation
This call for mini-projects (up to £5,000) sought applications against the National HE STEM Programme strategic aims. This call opened 12th April 2010 and closed 16th May 2010.
Second Call for Funding - Transfer of proven innovative practice
This call for mini-projects (up to £10,000) was particularly directed to projects which would extend some proven innovative practice. This could be expanding a successfully funded project or transferring a project to a new university. New development projects against the National HE STEM Programme strategic aims were also invited. This call opened on 29th October 2010 and closed on 30th November 2010.
Third Call for Funding - Summit outcomes (including Developing Graduate Skills Uptake Programme)
This call took forward the recommendations from the HE Mathematics Curriculum Summit. The call took the form of a series of work briefs at various funding levels and applicants were invited to submit project proposals against these briefs. A proportion of the funding was also available to open call (up to £10,000).
Also included in this call was a call for mini-projects to take forward the ideas from the booklet Developing Graduate Skills in HE Mathematics Programmes and the first announcement of the Curriculum Innovation Travel Grants.
This funding call opened on 18th March 2011 and closed 13th May 2011.
Details are available from the funding call documentation:
- Third Call for Funding main document
- Application forms:
- Application form for Problem Solving, Assessment, Industrial problems for the HE curriculum, Culture of being a mathematician, Views of graduates on the HE curriculum and Open call.
- Application form for 'Developing Graduate Skills in HE Mathematics Programmes' uptake projects.
- Curriculum Innovation Travel Grants.
- Multiple applications form: Please complete this form if you have applied for more than one project. You may be able to complete all the projects you have applied for. However, you may be interested in applying for more than one but not have the capacity to complete all of them in the timescales specified. Instead of having to choose which to apply for and limiting your chances of success, this form is designed to give you the option to apply for multiple projects but receive funding for those you are able to complete.

- The booklet 'Developing Graduate Skills in HE Mathematics Programmes' is available via the project website.
- Sample contracts that will be agreed if your bid is successful:
- Mini-projects (£10,000 or less)
- Large projects (greater than £10,000)
N.B. The main contract (16MB) referred to in Appendix A is between the University of Birmingham, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Society of Chemistry and relates to the delivery of the National HE STEM Programme. This is available on request.
