Abstract: 
During 1999 CTI Mathematics helped to organise two workshops on the theme “Putting Mathematics on the Web”, and the report of these workshops contain many references to the tools available for the creation and rendering of MathML. Clearly there have been a lot of changes since then, and I attended the international MathML conference in order to find out the current state of play. The conference was sponsored by Wolfram, IBM, Netscape, Maple and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and was attended by almost 200 people with a wide range of interests.
