Abstract:
An enquiry into the use of numeric datasets in learning and teaching within UK Higher Education, sponsored by the JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee), has been looking into the barriers faced by post- and undergraduate teachers who wish to introduce students to the use of empirical datasets in the classroom. The results of one aspect of the project, a teachers’ survey on the use of numeric data in learning and teaching, are reported here. See the project website, http://datalib.ed.ac.uk/projects/datateach.html, for the full survey results and other information about the project, such as pointers to data-related teaching resources, case studies, and project-related publications….Barriers faced by post and undergraduate teachers wishing to introduce students to empirical datasets were identified by a JISC sponsored project…
